What can your Runner help you with when it comes to electrical work?

Your Runner can help you with most electrical renovation work, such as rewiring, replacing cabling, and installing new sockets and light fittings. If the house needs earthing or the fuse board needs replacing, that's also something your Runner can take care of. If you're not sure exactly what your job involves, describe it in your request and we'll help you work it out.

How does rewiring work?

The electrician always starts by cutting all power to the house. If the house isn't earthed, we recommend earthing it as part of the same job, for your safety. The electrician then runs new cabling and installs new sockets and light fittings where needed. If the fuse board needs replacing, that's done as the last step, before the whole electrical system is tested to make sure everything works as it should.

Am I allowed to do electrical work myself?

Accepted Answer

No, not if it involves running new cabling or installing fixed sockets. That always requires a licensed electrician by law. Attempting it yourself risks both injury and losing insurance cover if something goes wrong. What you're normally allowed to do without a licence is simpler things, like replacing a light bulb, a fuse or an extension lead.

What affects the price of rewiring?

A few things matter, such as whether the house needs earthing, how many new sockets and light fittings need installing, and whether the fuse board needs replacing. Send a request and describe the job, and you'll get bids from Runners who are licensed electricians. Then you choose who you want to hire yourself.

Does the ROT deduction apply to electrical work?

Yes, electrician services through TaskRunner are ROT-eligible. The deduction is 30% of the labour cost, which means you pay 70% yourself. The deduction is applied directly on the invoice. You don't need to do anything extra for it.

Choose the Handyman category, then Electrician, and describe what you need help with, ideally with photos and a clear timeframe. If you created the request on the website, you'll need to download the app to receive bids and hire a Runner.
